Achieving perfect white balance for snow scenes.

Achieving perfect white balance for snow scenes.

To set an accurate white balance for snow scenes, select the ‘set white balance” or equivalent on your camera, find a small, even, shaded area of snow and point your camera at it to read and set the white balance.

Snow is white, not blue ( as some will have you believe ) and it looks blue on some shots as the white balance is either not set right, the scene is too bright to be measured, or too dark.

So be careful to use a shaded area as if the sun or another light is shining on the area you use this will give a false reading.
